Arash Naghdi
Arash Naghdi (born 1995, Tehran) is a 30-year-old Iranian photographer and doctoral researcher based in Helsinki, Finland. His interest in visual art and photography began in Iran, where he first incorporated photography into his professional work. What started as a practical tool gradually became a personal language, a way to observe, record, and emotionally engage with the world around him. Encounters with Persian Gothic literature further deepened his fascination with the uncanny, the subterranean, and the haunted textures of existence.
After relocating to Finland in 2023, photography took on a more central role in his life. Immersed in a new environment and shaped by his academic work, Arash began to develop a deeper visual sensibility. His research helped sharpen his critical lens, while his camera became a tool for exploring the tension between personal memory and cultural structures.
In addition to his creative work, Arash is currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology of consumption. He hopes to one day publish a photo book that visualizes the emotional residue of capitalism, a body of work that reveals how it has rendered us dulled, disconnected, and suspended in states of emptiness and alienation.
