Arash Naghdi
I’m Arash Naghdi, born in 1995 in Tehran, Iran. I’m a photographer and doctoral researcher currently based in Helsinki, Finland. My journey into visual art and photography began back in Iran, where I first integrated photography into my professional work. What started as a simple, practical tool gradually evolved into a personal language, a way for me to observe, document, and emotionally connect with the world around me. My literary encounters with Persian Gothic stories deepened my fascination with the uncanny and the haunted textures of existence. This influence has shaped much of how I view and capture the world.
After relocating to Finland in 2023, photography became even more central to my life. Immersing myself in a new environment and engaging with my academic work helped me develop a sharper visual sensibility. My research has honed my critical lens, and my camera has become an essential tool for exploring the tension between personal memory and cultural structures. In addition to my creative pursuits, I’m currently working towards a PhD in Sociology of Consumption. My research examines the cultural impact of late-stage capitalism on the consumer subject, exploring how they navigate feelings of helplessness, disassociation, and existential uncertainty within our current socioeconomic landscape.
One day, I hope to transform my photographic body of work into a book of essays.
